Reactions are based on fear of pain(losses). Responses are made to maximise pleasure(profit). When we react, we do so from our primitive survival instincts and often make decisions that keep us alive for the now but turn out to be the wrong decisions in the longer term. This is because when we are driven by survival needs, we do not have access to the areas of our brain that allow us to take an overview, a longer-term approach. When in survival mode we react to signs of danger – real or imagined and can make rash decisions that we may regret later.
